The cabinet will today discuss the decision of MEPs to reject the government’s nominee to the European Court of Auditors Kevin Cardiff.
Mr Cardiff – who’s the top civil servant in the Department of Finance was deemed unsuitable for the plum European job by a budget control committee of the European Parliament.
Labour MEP Proinsias de Rossa who has described the civil servant as head and shoulders above the other candidates says the rejection is not a humiliation for the government – but simply a setback.
