Joan's daughter was woken around 1 o'clock this morning by the sound of the alarm going off and heard a crackling noise at the back of the fireplace.
As a precaution, Clare's Fire and Rescue Service was contacted, following which a fire was discovered in the wall cavity.
Joan has been telling Morning Focus that if her daughter didn't have a carbon monoxide alarm, the whole house could have become engulfed in flames with her family in it.
