Cancer sufferer escapes jail over growing cannabis

 

A long term cancer sufferer from Ennis has escaped jail despite being found growing cannabis worth over 5 thousand euro.

Jacqueline Corris of Connolly Villas appeared before the district courts yesterday charged with  possessing and cultivating the plants, without a licence, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The court was told the cannabis which was discovered during a search of her home in October 2011- was used by the  accused for pain relief for her cancer.

Ms Corris initially appeared in court last February when the case was adjourned for the preparation of a Probation Report and yesterday Judge Pat Durcan told the court the report was very positive.

He adjourned the case for six months stating if there were no difficulties of any kind during that period he would strike out the charges.
