Renasha Small O'Brien from Toronto stopped in the county capital following a day trip to Cork, having celebrated her wedding in Galway that week.

She and her elderly mother were turned away from four businesses including petrol stations and takeaways before being granted access to the bathroom in a pizza take-away, on condition she purchase a bottle of water.

Renasha told Clare FM that the experience placed a cloud over her mother's visit to Ireland.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of 'Promote Ennis' says he finds it surprising that petrol station and shop attendants were unhelpful to tourists.

Brian O'Neill intends to engage with businesses on the outskirts of Ennis to help improve the tourist experience in the town.
