A campaign has been waged for many years along the west coast, calling for a rail service which would operate between Ennis and Sligo.

The present government has indicated no plans to opening the line, saying that – rather than expanding the existing network – they wish to prioritise maintaining the rail infrastructure already in place.

However, Michael O'Doherty from West on Track says operating both passenger and freight services is economically viable.
