There are calls for the entirety of county Clare to be designated as a Rent Pressure Zone.
As of last week, Ennis is now officially a Rent Pressure Zone due to rents having increased by more than 7% over the last five quarters.
This means any further increase in rent in the county town cannot exceed general inflation which currently stands at 4.9%.
The average rent in Ennis between January of March of this year was €1,130 while countywide, the average was €1,074.
Chair of Clare County Council’s Housing Committee, Councillor Gerry Flynn, believes the designation should be extended due to soaring rents elsewhere.
