Clare County Council and Uisce Éireann are being urged to be as transparent as possible regarding the potential construction of a wastewater treatment plant in West Clare.
The local authority has erected a site notice stating its intention to construct a sewage treatment facility in the townlands of Kilkee Lower and Foohagh, Kilkee.
The popular surfing destination has long been associated with raw sewage discharge, with the EPA reporting last March that the seaside town is responsible for 1,800 tonnes of raw sewage being released into the ocean daily.
Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says while the development is welcome, it’s important the exact site location is known and locals are kept informed throughout the process.
