Clare’s local representatives say the loss of banking services in the county’s towns would be a major blow, and are calling on the government to take action to protect them if necessary.

It follows yesterday’s announcement by AIB that it’s to shed 2,500 jobs, a move which union officials say will make the closure of branches ‘inevitable’.
The financial institution has up to half a dozen branches across Clare in Ennis, Shannon, Ennistymon, Killaloe, Kilrush as well as in Kilkee, where Councillor Pat Keane has called for the branch to be protected.
