Calls are being made for ongoing litter problems in Kilkee to be tackled.

Last month, issues with anti-social behaviour and littering were highlighted by local business owners, public representatives and residents of Clare’s Coastal towns – specifically Kilkee and Lahinch.

Despite concerns originally centering around an influx of visitors at weekends adding to the blight of litter, a regular visitor to Kilkee says the issue is now an everyday occurrence.

Meanwhile, a local Kilkee representative is calling for takeaways to meet their legal responsibility to house the rubbish that comes from their business.

It comes as fresh concerns are being raised that litter in the coastal town is worsening.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Cillian Murphy says while the council have a responsibility to provide bins in Clare’s public areas, that businesses offering takeaway need provide the appropriate facilities for customers.
