Calls For Shannon Staff To Be Redeployed To Dublin To Address Staffing Issues

The capital’s airport is to introduce passenger holding areas for those who arrive too early for their flights this weekend.

It plans to reveal the details to the Oireachtas Transport Committee this afternoon.

Sinn Fein’s transport spokesperson Darren O’Rourke says DAA needs to look at all options to address staffing issues.

Meanwhile, fresh calls have been made for Shannon Airport to be prioritised for a European connecting hub route.

Plans for an Aer Lingus route from Shannon to Paris were curbed due to the pandemic, while a Lufthansa route from the Midwest to Frankfurt is also no longer in use.

Mountshannon-based Fianna Fail Senator Timmy Dooley, who’s a member of the Transport Committee, says this needs to be re-examined urgently.
