Calls are being made for the former De Beers manufacturing site in Shannon to be converted to a sports complex to rival Lees Road in Ennis.
The derelict 16-acre site at Tullyvarraga has lain vacant for many years but was once a hub of sporting activity in the town.
Clare County Council is to explore whether the site is for sale before a commitment is made to converting it into such a facility again.
