Calls For Further Resources For Clare Communities Hosting Refugees

It’s claimed a long-term strategic investment plan is urgently needed to support Clare settlements hosting the highest volume of refugees.

Cabinet is set to discuss plans this week to ringfence grants of up to €500,000 for the most impacted districts under the Community Recognition Fund which enables the development of buildings,parks and playgrounds.

The North Clare Electoral area alone is currently hosting over 2,000 Ukrainian Refugees, which is more than half of this county’s total.

Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy says while further resources would be welcomed, the funding will help long awaited local projects to progress.
