Calls For Policy Changes To Allow Compulsory Housing Inspections

The Chair of the local authority’s housing committee is calling for a change in Government policy to allow for compulsory inspections of private rental properties.

It comes as the latest figures from the local authority shows almost 90% of private rented homes inspected by Clare County Council last year failed to meet the required standards.

The council inspected close to 500 houses in 2017 where tenants were on schemes like HAP and found that 434 were not compliant for a variety of reasons.
