Calls For Pedestrianisation Are “Premature”, Says Cahir

The President of Ennis Chamber says it’s “premature” to seek the return of pedestrianisation in the town centre.

Ennis Councillors are to debate a motion on the issue this morning, with the town’s Deputy Mayor Councillor James Breen seeking the ‘permanent pedestrianisation’ of the town centre.

Retailers have long opposed such a plan, and a 2010 trial which was to see the car-free streets at weekends for a six-month period was scrapped after six weeks.
