Calls are being made for a new state-of-the-art hotel to be built on the former Our Lady’s Hospital site in Ennis.
The 16-acre plot of land was purchased in recent months, after many years of being left in limbo, with regular calls for the council to take it in charge.
At a meeting of the local authority this week, Clare County Council says it is seeking to establish the details of the new owners but after months of speculation, multi-millionaire JJ McCabe has confirmed to The Clare Champion that he’s the new owner.
Planning permission is in place for a medical facility at the site but Independent Ennis Councillor Ann Norton feels a hotel would be the ideal use for it:
