Calls Made For Clare To Tackle Air Pollution

Calls have been made in Clare for an increased Government effort to tackle air pollution.

The EPA’s annual report, which has been published today, shows more than 15 hundred people die prematurely in this country every year because of air pollution.

Ennis was one of two places in the country where there were breaches of World Helath Organisation Standards in 2016, on account of the burning of solid fuels like wood, coal and peat and emissions from vehicle exhausts.

The Citizens Assembly, which met this weekend to consider climate change, have made 13 recommendations including higher taxes to reduce carbon emissions.

Deputy Timmy Dooley, who is his party’s Spokesperson on Climate Action and Environment has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that there’s an urgent need for action in a number of areas:
