Calls For Less Delays For Asylum Seekers

The Clare Immigrant Support Centre is calling for measures to be put in place to ensure asylum seekers aren’t being forced to live in direct provision for extended periods.

New figures released to the Dáil by Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald, show that the number of people in direct provision fell by 89 in the year to the end of March, to just over 4,460.

But more than 400 people granted asylum are still living in the country’s eight, privately operated direct provision centres, as they’re unable to find suitable accomodation.
