Calls In Kilkee For Urgent Storm Repairs

Elected representatives and business people in Kilkee say a state of emergency should be declared in the town, as they look for urgent storm repairs.

Issues persist with the town's Strand Line wall, and the adjacent road, after Kilkee felt the full force of Storm Bridget at the beginning of February.

Two months later though, and with the tourist season set to begin, Clare County Council has admitted it will be the end of August before all repairs are completed.

The local authority insists it's aware of the importance of tourism to Kilkee's economy, but Town Councillor and Chairperson of Kilkee Chamber of Commerce Elaine Haugh Hayes says swift repairs are needed.
