Calls For Garda Numbers At Shannon Airport To Be Re-Examined

Clare’s Senator is calling on the Policing Authority to examine ways of reducing the number of Gardaí deployed to Shannon Airport.

It comes as new figures released to the Dáil show that the Clare Garda division received one of the lowest allocations of Garda recruits in the country for 2017.

Ten recruits have been assigned to stations here this year, but on top of this, a further twelve Gardaí, who are not probationers, transferred into the county, five transferred out and five retired, resulting in a net gain of 13 Gardaí.

But Senator Martin Conway, who’s his party’s Justice Spokesperson has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he believes resources tied up in Shannon could be better used elsewhere:
