Calls For “Fully-Manned” Garda Station In Sixmilebridge

It’s claimed a “fully-manned” Garda station is required in Sixmilebridge to effectively tackle criminality in the region.

Recent population growth as well as a rise in reports of anti-social behaviour in the south-east Clare town have led local Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O’Gorman to propose the extension of Sixmilebridge Garda Station’s opening hours as it is not currently a 24-hour station.

The latest census figures show the population in Sixmilebridge stands at 2,856 which is greater than the populations of Ennistymon and Killaloe and is just shy of Kilrush, all of which have 24-hour Garda stations.

Councillor O’Gorman believes the town is in needed of a stronger Garda presence owing to its ongoing expansion and population growth.
