The local authority is asking people who visit there to dispose of food waste properly, especially around the rock armour.

Broadford resident Toni McCarthy visited Lahinch yesterday with her mother.

She says she left quickly after spotting a number of rats.

Local Green Party Councillor Liam Grant says this not a new issue and has recounted seeing dozens fleeing from the rocks at times of storm weather in particular.

He hopes a fresh plan will be made to deal with the issue, but acknowledges that it will be difficult to eradicate the problem entirely.

Councillor Grant says it’s important that people play their part in keeping littering at bay as he believes the rodent issue could pose serious health risks for people visiting the area.
