Tighter controls on illegal traveller encampments are being sought amid fears their presence may deter tourists from visiting Clare’s beaches this summer.

Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillery raised the issue at a meeting with local Gardaí outlining, and said illegal overnight parking by vans and caravans has caused numerous problems in his area and at other coastal locations.
And following reports of large numbers of camper vans parked in Lahinch over the long weekend, Councillor Hillery wants to see tighter laws in place to prevent this happening again
