The first Clare Couple to register a same sex civil partnership have called for an improvement in local facilities to see civil unions taking place in Ennis and throughout the county.
Bernadette Kenny and Heidi Hummel have been together for over 20 years but made local history recently when they celebrated their civil partnership under new legislation which provides recognition for lesbian and gay couples.
The North Clare Couple are now hoping for further progress in legislation to allow civil partners the full rights of married couples and to protect the rights of children in same sex unions.
Heidi and Bernadette are also calling for more options for gay couples in Clare particularly as their ceremony in May took place in Limerick due to the lack of suitable facilities here in Clare.
