Ennistymon Councillor Richard Nagle believes Clare is in a danger of becoming a two-tier county, with more rural parts suffering from a decline in both population and political representation.

He says the more people who leave for Ennis and further afield, the more the likes of West and North Clare will suffer economically and socially.

New figures show just six homes were sold to or built by first-time buyers in the last year, compared with 177 in other parts of the county and Councillor Nagle insists extra effort is needed to make these places attractive to live and work.
