Calls are being made for a national strategy on wind farms, in light of the rejection of plans for one such facility in Doonbeg.

Clare Coastal Wind Power Ltd. wanted to construct nine wind turbines but have been turned down by the planning appeals board who were concerned about the impact the project could have had on a fresh water mussel in the Doonbeg River.
Over 40 people had objected to the project on a variety of grounds, including Donald Trump's Doonbeg golf club that has welcomed the decision.
