Vincent Ryan was shot a number of times as he sat in his car on the McKee Road in Finglas yesterday afternoon.

Gardai say the car involved – a silver-grey 5 door Golf with alloys was later found burnt out.
Superintendent John Quirke is appealing for witnesses.

The shooting came at a time when gardai in Dublin are on high alert following two high profile killings in quick succession last month.

Local Councillor Paul McAuliffe says it shows that criminals have no regard for authority.

Gardai don’t believe that yesterday’s shooting was linked to those last month, reporter with the Herald Conor Feehan says that poses futher problems for the force.

Vinny Ryan was a younger brother of real IRA boss Alan Ryan, at whose funeral 4 years ago there was a prominent paramilitary display.

Councillor McAuliffe says that cannot be allowed to happen at Vincent Ryan’s funeral.
