Calls have been made for the introduction of mandatory in-car breathalysers in an effort to curb the number of drink driving related deaths on our roads.

The latest figures from an Garda Siochana show 17 people were arrested on suspicion of drink driving in Clare in December, an increase of 3 on the same period in 2015.

There's been a 34% increase in arrests for the offence nationally, which Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune believes shows a need for authorities to get tough on drink drivers.

In-car breathalysers have been used in other countries across Europe, and MEP Clune says the measure could be successful here.
