Eamon Meehan is commenting following the announcement that 4,000 refugees will be accepted here under a new protection programme, which will include special reception centres to process arrivals.

The scheme will cost around 12 million euro per year, for every thousand refugees housed in Ireland.

The Kilmaley-based director of Trocaire is welcoming the announcement but Eamon Meehan says we mut remain open to continued efforts to help solve the current situation facing Europe
