Over 87 million euro is owed to hospitals in the west for private health insurance claims.
The Chairman of the HSE's Regional Health Forum West says 35 million of this is waiting to be signed-off on by a consultant, 16 million of that in the Mid-West.
Clare County Councillor Tom McNamara has criticised the delay saying this money would go a long way towards tackling the half a billion euro budget overrun expected for this year.
