Calls For Government Action In Airports Pension Row

The Transport Minister has been accused of not doing enough to avoid strike action which could ground flights at Shannon, Cork and Dublin Airports.

SIPTU members at thrree state airports and at Aer Lingus have voted in favour of taking industrial action as part of a pensions row, though the trustees of their joint scheme have published a fresh proposal aimed at cutting it's 780 million euro defecit.

Minister Leo Varadkar has said a strike could make this situation worse, and has encouraged all sides to go to the Labour Relations Commission.

However, Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley feels the government should be doing more, given that it's the owner of the airports and a shareholder in Aer Lingus.
