It’s claimed it’s in Killaloe’s best interests for its existing bridge to remain open to traffic for the time being.
A public consultation process with a view to pedestrianising the 18th century bridge to Ballina is currently underway, ahead of the opening of the new Shannon Bridge Crossing, which is expected between January and March of next year.

A major milestone of the €88m project has also been reached, with the Killaloe Bypass officially opening this week.
Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe believes it’s vital both bridges co-exist until the level of traffic demand for each is determined.
