Concerns have been raised surrounding the implementation of the new smoky coal ban which took effect in Ennis this week
The ban, announced by Minister for the Environment is aimed at reducing air pollution in urban areas and its now illegal to sell, distribute or burn bituminous or smoky coal in Clare’s County town with hefty fines for offenders.
Details of the regulations are available on Ennis Town Council’s website and the areas covered include the town centre, as well as Clareabbey, Doora, Ennis rural and Spancillhill.
Ennis Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney while welcoming the ban, believes there’s a lack of proper information on the restrictions which is leading to confusion and concern
