Clare’s Oireachtas members are being asked to ensure that the elderly and disabled of County Clare can continue to have upgrade works performed on their homes.
Clare County Council’s overall allocation was cut by half this year, compared to the figure for 2011, but local representatives have heard that this is not due to a cutback by central government.
Rather, the local authority could not raise further funds to fulfil it’s requirement to meet 20% of the total cost of the works.
549 people availed of these schemes in Clare last year, but Councillors say the schemes have now been effectively cut off to further applicants.
Shannon Councillor Sean McLoughlin is calling on the government to increase it’s overall allocation
