Both sides of the dispute at Aer Lingus have been urged to come together and thrash out a deal in order to save its cabin crew base at Shannon.
The airline plans to close the facility in March, threatening the future of the 87 staff there, after deciding to sub-contract cabin crew roles on year-round transatlantic services on smaller Boeing 757 aircraft.
Aer Lingus says it is entering into a 30 day consultation period with union representatives to explore the options which may be available for the affected staff.
Clare Fianna Fail Deputy Timmy Dooley, though, is hoping agreement can be found and says he has reached out to the airline to stress the importance of this.
