Sinn Fein Councillor Mike McKee says many property owners are still refusing to accept Rent Supplement and Housing Assistance payments, despite legislation preventing them from turning down tenants for this reason.
The Shannon Councillor's proposal received the backing of a number of other representatives, however some expressed concern over pursuing landlords who its claimed are already struggling financially.
Councillor McKee is also calling on all landlords to register with the Private Residential Tenancies Board
