Renewed calls have been made for people aged 70 and over to be allowed to drive school buses amid ongoing school transport issues in this county.
Towns and villages across the county have been left without a functioning school bus route in recent weeks due to driver and vehicle shortages, with Corofin, Cratloe, Tuamgraney and Ruan among the places affected.
Bus Éireann’s policy of preventing drivers 70 and over from operating school bus services has come under scrutiny in recent weeks with several calls for the age limit to be relaxed.
Sixmilebridge Councillor Alan O’Callaghan believes the rule is discriminatory and a health-centred approach should be taken instead.
