Concern has emerged that some community playgrounds in Clare could be forced to close, if a sustainable funding model isn’t in place for the maintanance of such facilities.
Kilkee Councillor Cillian Murphy has called on the local authority to undertake a study to determine the future maintanance and upgrande costs of playgrounds covered by its insurance, to ensure they remain operationally viable.
Clare County Council took over the cost of insuring such facilities a number of years ago, due to difficulties encountered by community organisations is getting cover.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Murphy says it’s now becoming increasingly difficult for such organisations to cover the cost of repairs.
