Calls For Clare Grave Bye Laws To Be Examined To Facilitate Urn Burials

A South East Clare Councillor believes the local authority needs to examine its bye-laws surrounding permitting urns to be buried in the county’s graveyards.

It follows calls at the monthly meeting of Clare County Council for an updated columbarium policy to be put together due to increased cremation rates locally.

Nearly 1 in 4 of all deaths in Clare was followed by a cremation last year, compared to around 1 in 20 back in 2016.
