Clare County Council is continuing to investigate illegal dumping off the Gort Road in Ennis, and also in the Rocky Road area of the town.

As there had been traveller encampments near both sites, a local Fianna Fáil Councillor has now spoken out.

Clare Colleran Molloy, who says she will raise the issue at a forthcoming Council meeting, discussed the issue with Pavee Point’s Martin Collins on today’s edition of Morning Focus here on Clare FM.

She called on the traveller representative group to lead efforts to address issues within their community.

The President of Pavee Point, meanwhile, insists that the organisation in no way condones illegal dumping and that those responsible should be prosecuted.

Martin Collins has cautioned against stereotyping all travellers, however, following the actions of a small group.
