Calls are being made for increased efforts to lure tourists to smaller towns near West Clare’s traditional hotspots, to spread their economic impact.
Spanish Point-based Dr John Hillery wants additional resources to be put in place for towns along the Wild Atlantic Way, to deal with the effects of increased tourist activity there.
It’s after the IBAL litter survey last week labelled Doolin as badly littered, something Dr Hillery fears is a problem of success in tourism.
Dr Hillery, who is a Fianna Fáil candidate in the next general election, feels that attracting visitors to towns near the coast that aren’t currently seeing that footfall can be of benefit to all.
