Call For Change To Foreign Driving Licence Conversion Rules

Clare County Council is to write to the Transport Minister calling for changes to the Driver’s Licence Exchange Scheme, to ensure returning emigrants aren’t being put off coming home.

It comes as concern has been raised about the conversion of US licences in particular for Irish citizens who no longer hold, or never held, an Irish licence.

As it stands, the scheme allows for EU or EEA licences to be exchanged at ease, as well as other recognised countries, with the US not being one of them.
