The Cabinet is set to sign off on a new household charge when ministers hold their final meeting before the Summer break this morning.

They’re expected to approve a 100 euro flat rate tax on property
which would bring in more than 150-million euro.
Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes has defended the fairness of the
proposed new charge.
He says a flat rate may be the only way to bring in the money the government needs:
