Cabinet To Discuss IBRC Investigation

Cabinet will consider emergency laws this morning, aimed at getting the Commission of Investigation into IBRC back on track.

Ministers will meet to discuss the fallout, after the Commission's chairman said he didn't have the power to demand the necessary documents from the bank because of confidentiality and legal privilege issues.

This morning will also be the first time that ministers will hear from the Attorney General, Máire Whelan on the issue.

Group Political Editor with Independent Newspapers, Kevin Doyle, says a change in the law could require a referendum, but the government is likely to try to solve the problem with emergency legislation.
