Cabinet To Be Briefed On Funding Needs For Shannon Group

The Transport Minister is to bring recommendations to Cabinet on dealing with the financial issues at Shannon Airport and Shannon Heritage.

During a Seanad debate, Clare Senators Martin Conway, Timmy Dooley and Roisín Garvey were among the members of the house who called for supports to allow Shannon Heritage sites to open year-round.

A proposal to allow this happen has been submitted to government by Shannon Group, with an estimated cost of €4 million, though that figure may have fallen further with the confirmation that the Wage Subsidy Scheme is to be extended.

Responding, Tourism Minister Catherine Martin vowed to support Shannon Heritage sites, but said it’s largely a matter for her party leader Eamon Ryan.

The Department of Transport says the issues at Shannon will be raised at cabinet “in due course.”
