Emergency services were alerted at approximately 11am this morning to an oil spill on a 9km stretch of the Old Gort Road beginning at Lidl in Ennis and stretching as far as Crusheen.

Crews from the Clare County Fire Service carried out a clean-up operation and it’s understood the route is safe to traverse once again.

Shortly before 2pm, a Garda car was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Monreel South on the N85 between Inagh and Ennistymon resulting in traffic diversions at Fountain Cross.

Gardaí as well as units from the Clare County and Fire Service and National Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

The route has since reopened and two Garda members, male and female, as well as a male driver of the second vehicle, were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

In North Clare meanwhile, a crane is understood to currently be en route to Doonagore between Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher where a tourist bus carrying at least twenty passengers partially entered a ditch.

No injuries have been reported and the road between Lough North and Doolin Castle remains closed at this time.
