Business Booming In Ennis During Fleadh Celebrations

Businesses in Ennis are reporting a massive surge in trade during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

Thousands of people have been travelling to the county town throughout the week to soak up the atmosphere, and shop owners have reported as much as a 100% increase in custom compared to the same period last year.

With the final weekend of the Fleadh traditionally the busiest, business people around Ennis are anticipating a strong weekend for sales from tomorrow.

This is in contrast with last year when businesses didn’t see as much of a boost as had initially been expected.

Ronan Cahir runs The Woollen Market on Abbey Street – he says his turnaround this week compared to the 2016 Fleadh has been phenomenal.

While many traders are reporting a similar boost in the number of sales, it hasn’t been felt in all corners.

Mary Kelly, who owns a card shop and newsagents on O’Connell Street believes it will be viewed as an overall positive week for the local economy.

Visitors from home and abroad have been descending on the banner for the festival over the past number of days.

These people say they’re impressed with the selection of retail on offer in Ennis.
