Bureaucracy Adding To Problems With Lack Of Space At Burial Grounds

It's claimed that regulation of old burial grounds is adding to problems associated with of a lack space at cemetries across Clare.

the local authority has been called on to urgently investigate the extension of Lemenagh burial ground which is running out of space due to an influx of people into the town during the boom years.

But the Chairman of Kilrush Parish Graveyards Maintanance Group says the issue is not affecting Newmarket on Fergus alone and regulation surrounding burial grounds is preventing such developments.

Former Town Councillor Tom Prendiville believes there's a reluctance to grant permission for extensions to old burial grounds which is cauing frustration among many communities.

He says such developments face a number of stumbling blocks.
