Broad Welcome For Royal Visit To Clare

News of a royal visit to the Burren is receiving a broad welcome among the business and tourism industries in Co. Clare.

Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla are making their first official joint visit to Ireland on Tuesday next week and will take part in a number of engagements in the West and North of the country.

Following on from the Queen's visit to Ireland in 2011 and the President of Ireland's visit to the UK last year, the royal couple are hoping to continue to promote the UK's relationship with Ireland through a broad range of engagements.

They'll begin their visit by attending a reception at the National University of Ireland Galway. The Prince will then highlight environment and conservation projects through two engagements – a visit to the Marine Institute and a trip to the Burren in County Clare.

Frances Connole, manager of The Burren Centre in Kilfenora, told Clare FM that his visit could be good for business in the area.

Clarence House says the Prince will examine the Burren's rare landscape and learn about challenges facing its farming community.

Commenting on the Prince's interest in farming, Michael Davern of Burren IFA said he has no doubt that Charles will feel at home there.
