Broad welcome as US firm names Ennis base as European HQ

There’s broad welcome to news of 50 new jobs at Microsemi in Ennis, and the commitment pledged by company chiefs to County Clare.

The Multinational Semi-Conductor Company has designated it’s Gort Road location as European Headquarters, and announced that staff numbers have increased to 300 this year as celebrations to mark 20 years of business in Clare were held last evening.

Microsemi President and CEO Jim Peterson said the Ennis plant is a world class facility that’s "well-poised to contribute to the company’s planned expansion and growth strategy".

The Industrial Development Authority which is responsible for overseas investment in Ireland have paid tribute to Microsemi’s endorsement of it’s Ennis plant.

IDA Manager in the Mid-West Sean Denver says it’s particularly significant that the company has made Ennis it’s European Headquarters.
