Brian Boru Bridge Opening Deemed A “Kick In The Teeth”

The way in which the unveiling of a new bridge in East Clare was handled is being described as a “kick in the teeth”.

A number of people have taken to social media to criticise the official opening of the Killaloe Bypass, Brian Boru Bridge and R494 Improvements Scheme which took place on Thursday afternoon.

Among the grievances being aired are that the event wasn’t open to the public and that the musicians who performed weren’t local to the area.

In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says “as is standard practice for such events, local elected representatives were invited to attend to represent their communities” and “this was not an open public event, or advertised as such”.

Ballina musician and singer Deirdre Scanlan says it’s just another example of the people of the twin towns being ignored.
